JAMES Lambert, chief executive of ice cream manufacturer R&R Ice Cream, has called for the European Union to help the food industry deal with increasing sugar costs. Leeming Bar-based R&R is concerned that more sugar is now being imported into Europe than exported because of spiralling costs. Mr Lambert said compared to the average market price in the UK for sugar 12 months ago of £440 to £480, many of the prices now being quoted are more than 60% higher.
