Ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's, which has a tradition of social activism, has launched a new flavor called, "Yes Pecan!" to "celebrate America's opportunity for positive change."The Vermont-based company has renamed its butter pecan flavor for the month of January to mimic the popular campaign slogan of President-elect Barack Obama, who will be sworn into office on Jan. 20.
All proceeds will go to the education fund of Common Cause, a nonpartisan, nonprofit citizens' advocacy group."Yes Pecan!" features amber waves of buttery ice cream with roasted non-partisan pecans, according to the ice cream maker.
"We want to be proactive in encouraging all of us to engage in the process of getting America back on a positive track," said Ben & Jerry's chief euphoria officer Walt Freese in a statement. "As we see it, it's a good time and a fitting way for us to honor that change.
Last month, Ben & Jerry's created a sundae to honor Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT). The lawmaker, the only Democrat to be elected to the U.S. Senate by Vermont, became state's longest-serving senator in December, having served 34 years.
